ENERGYbits – Spirulina & Chlorella Tablets
What is Spirulina and Chlorella?
Spirulina is a type of cyanobacteria, meaning it is bacteria (prokaryote) with the ability to photosynthesize, aka make its own food from sunlight, often referred to as blue-green algae. It grows naturally in freshwater lakes, ponds, and rivers and is unique in that it can adapt to “extreme” environments that most organisms do not thrive in.
Chlorella is a type of green algae (eukaryote), which differs from spirulina in its cell structure; chlorella must have its cell wall “cracked” in order for absorption. Chlorella grows in freshwater as well, and contains the highest amount of chlorophyll of all algae (or plants for that matter).
Both Spirulina and Chlorella are chock full of phytonutrients, so much so that NASA even considers it a potential food for space travel.
Some benefits include: immune boosting properties [1,2], antioxidant potential [1,2], and is said to be a possible method of removing heavy metals and environmental toxins from the body.
Why we like ENERGYbits (spirulina) and RECOVERYbits (chlorella)
- 100% pure, no added fillers or ingredients, just the algae
- Grown in Taiwan in outdoor freshwater, which is believed to be the gold standard for growing the safest, highest quality algae due to air quality and water quality
- They use third party testing to guarantee their algae is free of toxins, heavy metals, and contaminants
- Cell walls of chlorella are “cracked” using sound waves rather than high heat (destroys enzymes) or glass beads (which leak lead into product)
When and Why to use
- Great for travelling when nutrient dense foods are unavailable
- When your immune system needs a boost
- Has no effect on blood glucose at recommended dose
